Recently we were contacted by Greystone Affordable Development and Harmony Housing to be a part of their new New Bern Crossing Affordable Housing Development in SE Raleigh. There was a wooded area outside of the development that was heavily littered as well as a badly littered road leading to the entrance. You can probably guess the road if you’ve read any of our prior blogs.
We accepted the challenge. For 4+ days, David, Karen and Johnny, 3 mighty members of your Workforce, climbed down, crawled in and pulled out 2400 pounds of litter, trash, debris and nastiness. They also hauled out 6 mattresses and returned 17 shopping carts to their respective stores. All while only sustaining 8 bee stings and 2 cuts.
But the best part was that, outside of the environmental impact, David, Karen and Johnny were able to earn nearly $500 each for their tremendous efforts. They were so proud to receive their checks and 2 of the 3 mentioned that it had been years since they’d earned that much at one time.
As we always say, we do this work for the environment but to put smiles on faces is the cherry on top.
